TSTCA #1 Recap

We had a packed last week where we named our captains and competed in our first meet.

Leland, Carter, Jonah, Sera, Julia, Izzy, and Lindsey were named captains for the 2019 Indoor Season. Congrats to all of them. Their teammates listed work ethic, positive attitude, the fun they bring to team as a few of the reasons why they are worthy to be our captains for the season.

Our first meet saw several newcomers to our team compete. Ava Starks (60m, 4x200m relay), Julia Nagle (400m), Mallory McCauley (Long jump, Triple jump, 4x200m Relay), Madi Mazza (200m, DMR), and Taylor Wright (60m Hurdles, 4x200m relay) donned the SJCA TF shield in Edinboro as they kicked off their careers. Congrats!

We had several strong performances throughout Saturday as we shrugged off some of the Christmas Break rust. Izzy Warren set two school records on the day with a winning leap of 35-1.5 in the triple jump and a 4th place finish in the 60m hurdles (10.16). Carter Kauffman was victorious in the mile as he obliterated the field with 60s final 400! The girls’ distance medley relay team of Lindsey Carmack, Madi Mazza, Myah Chappelle, and Sera Mazza put on a show as they nearly lapped the field with their winning effort. Other place winners included Sera Mazza and Lindsey Carmack in the mile, third and sixth, respectively.

PTFCA Championships Recap

We had a historic Day at the PTFCA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Julia got our day started with a runner-up finish in heat #1 of the mile that earned her 10th place overall in a new school record of 5:14.58!

After a few hours recovery, Julia was ready for her 1200m leg to lead off the distance medley relay team as she partnered with Myah Chappell (400m leg), Addie Ebbs (800m), and Sera Mazza (1600m). The girls ran a phenomenal race as they made the race from the gun and were in it with a chance to win the whole race. They would end up 4th overall in a new school record of 12:33.98!

It was a great end to our epic indoor season that saw our record book rewritten many times over! The team will enjoy a few days off before we begin our prep for outdoors. Thanks for the continued support!

State High Invite #3 Recap

We closed out our regular season at the Horace Ashenfelter Track for State High Invite #3. We had limited entries since the meet serves as the Indoor Mid Penn Championships. We are able to enter those who had the state qualifying standard or were close to it.

The girls’ distance medley relay got us started with a bang! They smashed the school record by cutting nearly 20s off of our previous best by running 12:39.96. Julia, Myah, Addie, and Sera were on their ‘A’ Game as they lapped the field for the win as their time is now PA #5!

Izzy finished second in triple jump with a leap of 33-10.75. She had a consistent series on the runway.

Julia lowered the school in the mile with runner-up finish in 5:16.87! Her new personal best should be close to qualifying her to the PTFCA State Championship. Sera added a 6th place finish in 5:38.12.

Carter closed out our night with a 6th place finish in the 3000m. He crossed the line in 9:27.41. It was strong race as he battles with the leaders in the early stages.

Next up will be the PTFCA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 25!

PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival Recap

We traveled to Lehigh University yesterday for the PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival. The meet has an entry cap, so we were only able to get a few athletes into the meet. We kicked off our day with the girls 4x800m relay. The team of Julia, Myah, Addie, and Sera ran a school record time of 10:08.61 to finish ninth overall. Izzy was up next in the long jump. She leaped 15-3.25 for 22nd place. After a break in action for us, Carter took to the track for the 3k. He ran a strong race to finish 13th in 9:22.01, a few ticks off of his school record and good enough for #2 All-Time in school history. The girls distance medley relay team of Julia, Izzy, Addie, and Sera closed out our day with a new school record (our first time under 13 mins!) of 12:58.13 to finish 5th overall! The time ranks as PA #10. It was a strong meet and necessary day as we push towards of goals of the season.
