Central Mountain/Shamokin Recap

The fact we were able to move this meet to Wednesday made a huge difference in weather conditions which I am sure was a blessing the spectators and athletes. Mr. Walsh’s relationship with Central Mountain has enabled us to begin a competitive dual series with them in recent years and this year would be more of the same.

The little details add up until they represent significant differences. Let nothing slip through the cracks. – Bill Belichick

The girls team set two school records on the day with Clare Marsh in the 300m hurdles (49.44) and the girls’ 4x400m relay (Myah Chappell, Sera Mazza, and Clare Marsh), but it wasn’t enough as they suffered a narrow defeat, 69-73, to the Wildcats. Other event winners on the day were the girls 4x800m relay (Julia Cusatis, Addie Ebbs, Kathleen Simander, Sera Mazza), Izzy Warren (100m hurdles, Long jump, triple jump), Myah Chappell (400), Sera Mazza (800), Lindsey Carmack (3200), and Michaela Maynard (discus).

Success doesn’t come from pie-in-the-sky thinking. It’s the result of consciously doing something each day that will add to your overall excellence. – Nick Saban

The boys had four event wins on the day lead by Carter Kauffman’s double wins in the 1600 and 800. Carter also teamed with Leland Calistri, Tyler Emigh and Max Wortman to win the 4x800m relay and lower their season best. Theo Spychalski produced a season best throw in the javelin (126-1) to earn the victory. The boys were defeated by Central Mountain 111-31.

There is no substitute for hard work. If you’re looking for the easy way, if you’re looking for the trick, you might get by for a while, but you will not be developing the talents that lie within you. There is simply no substitute for work. – John Wooden

We were able to add a few more district qualifiers on the day which was a plus!

Central Mountain/Shamokin Dual Meet Information

Because of the weather and the flooded infield where they host some of their field events, the meet is being moved to Wednesday, April 18. The girls will look to keep their win streak going while the boys will look for win #1 on the season.

The meet is held at Central Mountain’s MIDDLE SCHOOL, not high school.

Students dismissed at 2:03 p.m.
Bus departs at 2:17 p.m.

The first quote below is the same one I used last year for the Central Mountain meet. I felt it still applied, so I am using it again.

Doubts kill more dreams that failure ever will. When we are kids, we were able to create, imagine, dream with no limits. We don’t doubt ourselves or our purpose. But when we get older, we are taught about responsibility and that maybe becoming an artist isn’t exactly a “safe and secure” profession. We move away from our passions and tell ourselves that it’s just a part of growing up. It is reality, we tell ourselves. But in reality, multiple studies showed that people who followed their hearts and led with purpose were way more likely to become independently wealthy vs. those who followed money and security. – Ekaterina Walter

Success has less to do with hoping and praying and strategizing than with diligently doing the right things, the right way, over and over and over.” – from The Motivation Myth by Jeff Haden.
